I'm Sherry. been a fan of standies since my early riding years (early 90's! oh crud, just dated myself a bit there, eh? lol) and since mid February this year am finally the proud human in the life of a lovely little coming 3 year old standardbred mare named Loki. She actually belongs to a friend of mine and i'm her trainer for re-sale purposes, but there has been talk of me buying her, so we'll see how that goes! Loki was never a track horse, didn't meet the deadline for registration, and her training before i took her on only consisted of minimal halter work, so it's been a fun road traveled as i teach her everything she needs to know. One thing that makes Loki a bit different from most other standardbreds is that she doesn't pace at all, but does have a gorgeous trot that looks like it will be a dream to ride. we are getting closer and closer to her first ride and i hope to post plenty of photos for y'all in the near future on our training adventures! Loki's 'lot in life' is to be a good all around horse with a side focus on jumping. My barn manager is convinced she's no good for a riding horse due to her breed. Loki and i are going to prove him wrong! lol. i'm also a very happy leaser of a quarterhorse gelding named Eddie. been enjoying his company since last summer and we are like two peas in a pod Eddie was a reiner but now sports an english saddle and we are working on getting rid of his winter hay belly now that the weather is finally cooperating. yay for spring! very happy to see a forum for us standie aficionados!
